WELCOME TO THE ACTS LAW
New legislation introduced Tuesday in the California State Assembly will create new mandates for youth organizations to prevent child abuse. Submitted by opens in a new windowAssemblywoman Lorena Gonzalez (D-San Diego), non-profits would need to devise abuse prevention strategies to secure insurance and volunteers who commit a certain number of hours monthly or annually to serve as reporters. Gonzalez authored legislation in 2019 that extended the window to report abuse claims against the Boy Scouts and hopes these new measures will continue pushing organizations to proactively work to protect children and prevent further scandals. She believes involving insurance companies will induce these organizations to craft thorough plans and develop a standard for the non-profits to follow in California and elsewhere.
