ACTS Law Obtains $2 Million Settlement involving Woman Fatally Beaten Outside Hotel

Boris Treyzon recently secured a $2 million settlement for the family of a woman who was killed in front of a Las Vegas hotel where she lived. On June 19, 2016, the decedent was walking her dog in front of her building when an unknown individual approached her and struck her repeatedly on her face and body. She suffered severe injuries and was taken to the hospital, where she was able to identify the attacker, who she claimed tried to sexually harass her before. The woman succumbed to her injuries a month later, as a result of the assault. Her husband sued the hotel owner claiming the company failed to properly train and engage in proper oversight of its employees. The defendants had control of the building where the couple lived, which offered space for tenants to walk their pets. The lawsuit claimed the hotel owners knew about the risk of violent assaults in that part of the building but did not add extra security, making the defendants liable for the victim’s injuries. The lawsuit alleged there was no security at the time to prevent the attack and protect the woman from the deadly assault.
